Justin Brownlee tops most-backed players list as Ginebra ends PBA title drought

In a series that had all the trappings of a classic, Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel dethroned TNT Tropang 5G to emerge as PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup champions.

MANILA, Philippines – As Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel claimed the PBA Commissioner’s Cup crown at the expense of TNT Tropang 5G, ArenaPlus users made it clear which player they trusted the most all Finals long.

According to the latest available data from ArenaPlus, the No. 1 PAGCOR-licensed online sportsbook in the Philippines, Ginebra resident import Justin Brownlee emerged as the most-backed player during the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup Finals, accounting for 22.11 percent of the total player bets throughout the series.

What’s more impressive was the confidence users placed in the veteran reinforcement. A total of 81.98 percent of bets involving Brownlee expected him to surpass his projected statistics in categories such as points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

ArenaPlus users can predict whether a player will finish above or below projected statistics set by the service provider.

At the end of the series, Brownlee delivered another masterful performance on the biggest stage, averaging 36.57 points, 9.14 rebounds, 5.14 assists, and 1.29 steals to help steer the Gin Kings past TNT and back to the top.

The 38-year-old naturalized Filipino put up one memorable outing after another, including back-to-back scoring explosions of 54 and 52 points in Games 5 and 6, respectively, that kept Ginebra’s championship hopes alive.

By the time the series ended, Brownlee had secured his seventh PBA championship — the most by any import in league history — further cementing a legacy that already ranks among the greatest the league has ever seen.

Behind Brownlee in total player bet count was TNT import Chris McCullough, who accounted for 12.80 percent of all bets. More than 70 percent of users who backed McCullough expected him to finish above his projected statistics.

Newly-minted Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference RJ Abarrientos ranked third with 11.77 percent of total player bets, while 68.97 percent of bettors believed the crafty guard would exceed his projected numbers.

TNT star RR Pogoy placed fourth at 10.28 percent, with 77.05 percent of bets expecting him to put up numbers beyond his projected statistics. Eventual Finals Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson wound up fifth with 9.39 percent of total player bets and 81.32 percent confidence from ArenaPlus users.

Also making the Top 10 most-backed players during the Finals were Jordan Heading (8.63 percent), Calvin Oftana (6.89 percent), Troy Rosario (3.75 percent), Rey Nambatac (3.16 percent), and Japeth Aguilar (3.06 percent).

As Ginebra celebrated its first title in three years, Brownlee once again proved why he remains one of the most admired figures in Philippine basketball.

“Justin Brownlee has earned the trust of basketball fans through years of success in the PBA, and the Finals showed that confidence remains as strong as ever,” said Erick Su, Head of ArenaPlus.

“The other players who drew the most support were also the ones carrying the biggest responsibilities on the court. Fans clearly knew who to watch in a series of this magnitude.”
